Derbyshire Dales Candidate Selected

The Derbyshire Dales’ constituency group of the Derbyshire Green Party is pleased to report that it has selected its candidate for the General Election on 12th December.

Our candidate is Matt Buckler, an ecologist who works for the Derbyshire Wildlife Trust. Matt was previously the conservation manager at the Moors for the Future Partnership, part of the National Park Authority, running peatland restoration projects across the Southern Pennines. He is married with two children and lives in Matlock.

Matt has been an active member of the Green Party for 8 years. In May he won two elections, to become a Councillor for Matlock Town and Councillor for Stanton-in-Peak Ward on the District Council. Matt chairs Matlock Town Council’s Climate emergency working group.

Matt said “We believe the Conservatives have poorly served the Derbyshire Dales by not tackling the issues that face us, including environmental degradation and economic decline. Despite their focus on economic growth to the exclusion of all else, the GDP of the Derbyshire Dales District fell by 5.9% between 2012 and 2017”.

Matt will focus on key Green priorities, including the Climate Emergency, fair votes and community-led housing, with the aim of improving the overall wellbeing of our beautiful region, rather than sacrificing it to failed strategies to promote growth.

We will publish our manifesto after the close of nominations on 14th November.

Matt’s phone is 07493 533291

His election agent is John Hill on 07974 943911.

Our press officer is John Youatt on 01629 636241
